Listeriosis and Listeria monocytogenes in India
Human listeriosis, a dreaded disease of the west has surfaced in the last two decades in India, and there have been a series of reports on sporadic cases. There have been more than 20 outbreaks of listeriosis in different parts of the globe since 1981 that have been implicated to different types of food. And nearly all cases of listeriosis are food-borne. After the disturbance that it has cause...
متن کاملHuman Listeriosis Caused by Listeria ivanovii
Two species of Listeria are pathogenic; L. monocytogenes infects humans and animals, and L. ivanovii has been considered to infect ruminants only. We report L. ivanovii-associated gastroenteritis and bacteremia in a man. This isolate was indistinguishable from prototypic ruminant strains. L. ivanovii is thus an enteric opportunistic human pathogen.
متن کاملCellular vaccines in listeriosis: role of the Listeria antigen GAPDH
The use of live Listeria-based vaccines carries serious difficulties when administrated to immunocompromised individuals. However, cellular carriers have the advantage of inducing multivalent innate immunity as well as cell-mediated immune responses, constituting novel and secure vaccine strategies in listeriosis. Here, we compare the protective efficacy of dendritic cells (DCs) and macrophages...
متن کاملEvolution and molecular phylogeny of Listeria monocytogenes isolated from human and animal listeriosis cases and foods.
To probe the evolution and phylogeny of Listeria monocytogenes from defined host species and environments, L. monocytogenes isolates from human (n = 60) and animal (n = 30) listeriosis cases and food samples (n = 30) were randomly selected from a larger collection of isolates (n = 354) obtained in New York State between 1999 and 2001. Partial sequencing of four housekeeping genes (gap, prs, pur...
متن کاملTyping Listeria monocytogenes isolates from fish products and human listeriosis cases.
Seventy-two Listeria monocytogenes isolates originating from 10 different fish products of 12 producers and 47 isolates from human listeriosis cases were typed by serotyping and multilocus enzyme electrophoresis. Seventy-five of these isolates were further subtyped by restriction analysis of genomic DNA with the enzyme XhoI and by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis using the enzymes ApaI and SmaI...
